Just think of real life. To meet your partner is a real challenge, unless of course you look like Cameron Diaz or Brad Pitt.
If you are a religious person you would go to church meetings, if not then maybe a club or other social venues, but the harsh reality if you have to socialise a lot to find other like minded singles.
Even when you meet those other singles, you still have to soft through all of them until you come across a mutual attraction which does not happen everyday.
Most people spend years alone before they find their match
So now let's compare this with an online dating site.
First of all, everyone is there for the same reason as you. Everyone wants to chat and sift through everybody else's profile, everyone wants to chat.
It kinda makes sense, why waste all that time effort and money trying to find someone suitable, when online dating already does ninety percent of the work for you.
It really is a no-brainer, online dating does work. We all know someone, or more than one person who has met their match on online dating.
So let's look at some of the dos and dont's of online dating.
Select a site carefully
Just because one site has more profiles it does not mean that it is the correct one. Some sites offer free memberships with limited functionality, which means you will get tons of chancers, most probably married ones, looking for quite selfish fun.
It is better to go for a reasonably priced one, where you know the other people a paying just like you and are serious about finding love.
Make your profile interesting
Just like a marketing campaign. You dress to attract in the real world, in online dating it's your profile that makes the difference. Don't be too wordy and don't put in too little.
Put in catchy tag lines and leave an air of mystery, like "com and find out".
Use a flattering picture
Use an honest photo, but one which makes you look good.
Please don't use one from your high school yearbook if its ten years old, and use a photograph of yourself.
Also don't use pictures with other people in them, especially of ex-interests. Any person looking is just going to wonder what you are trying to prove.
When communicating
Don't give the person your life story on the first email. Just indicate you would love to talk, and put in something interesting. Something humorous always works well, but stay away from offensive or below the belt humour.
Also avoid sob stories about how you were previously hurt or rejected. Sound positive and full of life.
People are attracted to positive people.
Security
Just like in real life you don't want to give out your personal details to a stranger, don't do the same thing online.
People can sound very charming on the Internet. Give the person time, and eventually you will see their character coming through.
When you do finally meet do it in a public place, and somewhere without alcohol.
